Change of Heart

"I watched them move Shay down the tier. Speak from your heart, I thought, watching him go. So that she knows it's worth taking." (p. 168)

"This was my life now, and Claire's: a waiting game. Like Shay Bourne sitting in his cell, waiting for his turn to die, we sat imprisoned by the limitations of Claire's body, waiting for her turn to live. So don't judge me, unless you've fallen asleep on a couch with your ill child, thinking this night might be her last. Ask instead: would you do it? Would you give up your vengeance against someone you hate if it meant saving someone you love? Would you want your dreams to come true if it meant granting your. enemy's dying wish?" (p. 184)

The first book I read by Jodi Picoult was The Pact about 7 or 8 years ago. Fast forward to March 2007 when I saw her at a book signing at Border's. She was there to promote Nineteen Minutes, however the topic of discussion quickly turned to My Sister's Keeper. Intrigued about everyone's strong opinions about this book, I decided to read it first. My Sister's Keeper became my favorite book of 2007 and since reading this book, I decided to read all of her books in 2008.

Which brings me to Change of Heart. From the prologue, I was immediately hooked. I felt so much compassion for June and the loss she suffered. So much so, that I couldn't stop thinking about it the next day. For me, this book is about redemption and finding a way to move forward despite past choices and facing each day knowing that someone is forever missing from your life. Highly recommended. (5/5)

  1. I enjoyed this book very much, so very sad that sometimes we can't trust the ones that we think are most important in our lives.
