What, if any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present? Birthday or otherwise. What made it so notable? The person who gave it? The book itself? The “gift aura?”
I've been told it is really hard to buy books for me because I read so much. Normally, if someone wants to buy a book for me, I will have to tell them a specific title. Honestly, I prefer a gift card. I just enjoy spending time in a book store looking for a new book to read.
Your point is a good one - the time in the bookstore is as much a gift as the actual book. I'd take some babysitting along in the package as well :)
ReplyDeleteMy brother's ex-girlfriend gave me A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and that became one of my favorites reads of last year. And a few Christmases ago, my mom gave me The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which was really great.
